Field Goals A field goal is when an offense fails to score a touchdown but are in range to kick the ball through the goal post. A field goal is worth three points. As long as the offense is on the opposing thirty-five yard line or closer they can usually get an easy three points. If the kicker misses the field goal the defense is given the ball where they were and have to go the opposing way. They can also go for it on 4th down but if they miss they again give the ball to the defense. |

Punt A punt is when the offense fails to score a touch down or are not in range to kick a field goal and it is fourth down. A punter comes onto the field and kicks the ball as far as he can. The other team can return the ball until they are tackled. Wherever they are taken down, that is where they get the ball to start the drive. |

Kick Off A kick off is when a team either scores a touchdown, or a field goal. A kick off is like a punt only you tee the ball up rather than holding it and kicking it. When you kick it off the kick return team returns the ball as far as they can. They can also return it for a touchdown. A kick off also occurs when at the beginning of a game or at the beginning of halftime. Who ever gets the ball at the beginning of the game has to kick off and the other team gets the ball at halftime. |
