Different Offensive Formations There are many different offense formations in football. The most popular is probably the i formation. This means there is a full back and a half back and they are lined up like an i. There is also form, shotgun, trips and more. Form is when there is three receivers a tight end and the backfield lined up in an i formation. |

Offensive Line The offensive line is the people in the front of the quarterback that try to keep the defensive line long enough so the quarter back doesn't get sacked. The offensive line positions are Center, he hikes the ball. Then there are two tackles and two guards. The guards are closer to the center and then the tackles are right next to them. |

Positions There are eleven positions on offense at one time. There is the quarterback who is the main guy on the field. The quarterback either throws the ball or hands it off. Then there is a half back and a full back. They are the runners and occasionally will catch a pass. Usually the full back blocks and the half back gets the ball. Then there are the two tackles and the two guards and the center who are the offensive line. There are 3 wide receivers who catch the ball and finally the tight end who will sometimes go for a pass and blocks the defensive end. |

Offensive Responsibilities Your responsibilities on offense are to put points onto the scoreboard. Whether you score a touchdown or get into range to kick a field goal. If you are stopped by the defense and are not in range for a field goal and it is third down you would either have to punt it away or go for it, but if you go for it on fourth down and do not get the defense gets the ball where you had it. If you get the first down you have a fresh set of downs to go. |

Passing The quarterbacks are the people who either pass the ball or hand it off. Usually you pass it to your wide receiver but if you pass it to the the wrong person or a cornerback comes out of nowhere and catches it it is an interception and they can run the ball back as far as they want and then when they get tackled they get the ball where they want. |

Rushing Rushing is when you hand the ball off and run it as far as you can either going for a touchdown or at least a first down. Usually the half backs do all the running and the full back blocks for the half back, but occasionally the full back will get a run just to pound the ball in for a touchdown or a first down. The top five running backs in the NFL are Priest Holmes, Ladainian Tomlinson, Clinton Portis, Ahman Green, Jamal Lewis. Rushing is very important in football. Just this past year Emitt Smith broke the all time rushing yards record set by Walter Payton. |
