Larry Bird is one of the best  basketball players off all time. He grow up in a poor town in Indiana . In his youth he lived 17 different homes. He spent most of his time at his grandmas  house because she lived across the street  from a public basketball court.
  Larry went Indiana University . He was a star player when he was in college . He played soon to be NBA star at the time Magic in the  Johnson 1979 NCAA  men basketball national championship. Larry and his Hoosiers lost to Magic and his Michigan State Spartans.   

 

During the 1987 Eastern Conference Finals with under 5 seconds left in the game and the Detroit Pistons up . Larry stole an inbounds pass from Isaiah Thomas   and took down court  and  laid it up for the winning shot. with that basket Larry and his Boston  Celtics  went on to win the Conference Finals. 
 When he  came into the NBA he was the highest paid rookie at the time. All of this was thanks to Red  Auerbach 's gamble he made with drafting Larry Bird. Larry help the  Celtics change their loosing season form 1978 and 1979. In the NBA Larry's number 1 goal was winning. 
Larry put all his heart into the NBA. If he didn't get something right the first time he keep trying it until he got it right. Late in Larry's career  Larry suffered back problems that forced him to lay down on the sideline of then sit down on the bench like his other team mates.
Though out  Larry's career he shot well over 80% from the foul line. In 4 out of 14 season he played he led the league in foul shooting percentage . HE also won M.V.P awards in his first 8 years in the league.
