Shorthorn- This stocky red-brown cow is usually 4¼ feet tall and weighs in at 1,100 pounds.  This breed is hardy and easy to manage.  It is desired for its early maturity and good beef.  The shorthorn breed got its start in Northeast England when British farmers started crossing breeds to improve the quality of their beef.  It is the first breed to have been created solely to improve beef quality.
Texas Longhorn- This awesome-looking breed's average height is 4½ feet and its average weight is 770 pounds.  This Texan breed is very hardy and tolerable of sweltering weather.  Its beef is delicious and the bulls are great to use in rodeos because of the tough-looking horns.  Texas Longhorns have good maternal skills and great immune systems.  This breed originated when Vaqueros were driving cattle through Texas.  Some of the cows and bulls got loose and turned wild.
