This dog originated in Germany and has many special skills.  It is suited for a guard dog, a defense dog, and a family pet.

The shoulder height for dogs is 26 1/2 in to 31 in.  For females, it is between 25 and 29in.  Their weight is between 85 and 130 lbs.

Their coat is made up of short hairs that are that are either black and tan or brown and tan.  They come in blue and tan or gray-yellow and tan, but they are not recognized as show dogs.

When the dog is shedding, a glove with a knobbled surface be run over their coat.  Their claws should be kept short and their teeth periodically checked for tartar.

The Doberman is an active dog and it bonds closely to its owner.  It is brave, intelligent, loyal, and occasionally noisy and boisterous.  They have extremely good stamina.

This dog requires careful and constant training.  Try to make everything work together in their training.  If you don't have a lot of experience, you shouldn't get this dog.

If a dobe isn't trained right, it can become neurotic, fearful, and snappy.  This goes against their nature as they are normally reliable and straightforward.  Always be fair and clear and never hit or pester them.

This dog is made for defense training but shouldn't be started to early.  Don't pressure them early, never force them to be trained.  Wait for serious activity until it has matured somewhat.

A Doberman that has been socialized right can get along with other dogs, pets, and children.  Any unwanted person will be stopped immediately.

A Doberman is not suited with just a daily walk.  It is an extremely fit and built for speed.  It can be taken swimming, running along side your bike, or a run in the woods.  This dog is perfect for a variety of sporting activities.
