College Football-In 1968, Franco Harris decided to attend college at Penn State University. As a freshman he couldn't play for the varsity team so he studied very hard. He got excellent grades. He split playing time as a sophomore and was a great success. In his junior year he was even better. After losing one of the games the crowd cheered for the team.They only lost two more games the season. In Franco's senior year he had an outstanding year leading the team to only one loss.He was wanted by all the NFL teams. He proved he was one of the elite college players and was excited to be going pro. |

Franco's Italian Army-Steelers. He immediately became a fan favorite. The fans liked him so much they started calling themselves Franco's Italian Army.This is because Franco's mother was a full-blooded Italian. One Italian that owned a large bakery even made red, white, and green Italian flags for the members of the army to wave during the games. | |

| The Immaculate Reception-In 1972, the Steelers were up against the powerful Oakland Raiders in the playoffs with just over a minute left. Oakland was ahead 7-6. A few plays later with just ten seconds left on the clock, Bradshaw threw a pass to Frenchy Fuqua. Jack Tatum, of the Raiders, knocked the ball backwards. Franco snatched the ball out of the air and ran 42 yards for the winning touchdown and possibly the greatest play in sports history. | ![]() |

Statistics-Franco was an outstanding player. He proved time and time again that he was one of the greatest fullbacks of all time and is a member of the hall of fame. Over his 13 NFL seasons he racked up 12,120 yards on 2,949 carries. He had 91 touchdowns. Receiving he had 2,287 yards on 307 receptions with 9 touchdowns. In the postseason, he ran for a total of 1,555 yards and 16 touchdowns. |
