| Skates are a very important aspect of of hockey, without skates you can not play the game of hockey. Skates consist of three things, a stainless steel blade, and a boot. There are two types of blades, the original stainless steel blade, and the 'T' blade which isn't used much because you have to replace the blade every time the blade gets dull. The boot is connected to the blade-holder and has a toe, heel. and midsection. The most protected area of the skate is the toe which is a circular plastic covering with either a thread type covering over it or just a plain plastic covering that protects your toes from sticks, pucks, and glass etc. | Another main piece of equipment is the stick. There are three types of hockey sticks....well four if you include the goalie stick. One of the three types of player sticks is wood. Wood is for beginners who are just learning to play hockey. Another type of hockey stick, is the two piece stick. A two piece stick consist of a hollow fiber-glass like material and a wood or fiber-glass blade. The third stick is a goalie stick and it is specifically used for goalies, due to its rough carving and the short shaft and long blade. The last one is the cream of the crop. These babies can go for...up to $225. These sticks are composite sticks. There are three types of composite sticks, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior. Junior composite stick are for kids or people about 5'2 and below. The Intermediate composite stick is for kids or people from 5'2 to 6'0. And the last is the senior which is for people form 6'0 to 6'6 and above. Each stick has a different flex which is the bendiness of a stick. A junior is a 50 flex, intermediate is a 75 to 85 flex, and senior is 100 to 110 flex. |
