The National Aquarium was opened on August 8, 1931. The aquarium has more than 14,000 aquatic animals that live within four levels of the aquarium. There are 10 ongoing exbits such as the coral reef, the shark pool, a South American rainforest, full of birds, poison dart frogs, sloth's, tamarin monkeys, rainforest plants, and real-live piranhas. The aquarium has a 265,000 gallon pool filled with several species of small sharks and stingrays. The coral reef has hundreds of fish that are hand feed several times a day.e shark exbit is a 225,000 gallon tank with many exotic sharks, such as sand sharks, tiger sharks, and the nurse shark.
