Magic Johnson was born on August 14, 1959, the fourth of seven children. His real first name is Earvin, but he adopted the first name Magic, because of his great basketball skills. He lived Lansing, Michigan for most of his childhood. He played a lot of basketball against his dad, so he could get stronger. He went to Everett High School, which had one of the  worst basketball teams in the high school league. But Johnson changed that in 1977, leading the Vikings to the state championship.

He decided to go to Michigan State for his College degree. While there, he helped the Spartans win the 1979 NCAA college basketball championship over Larry Bird's Indiana State team. Then, he entered the 1979 NBA Draft. He got picked first overall by the Los Angeles Lakers. He found that the best strategy with the Lakers was to get the ball to star veteran teammate Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who would take care of the rest. He helped the Lakers win the championship 5 times, in 1979-80 and 1981-82 over the Philadelphia 76ers, in 1984-85 and 1986-87 over the Boston Celtics, and in 1987-88 over the Detroit Pistons. But, in 1991, he tested for HIV / AIDS, and announced his retirement from basketball, which shocked the world. But he decided to return and play in the 1992 NBA All-Star game, and was unanimously named MVP after leading the western Conference to a win. Then, he was voted to play on the 1992 Olympic Dream Team, along with great players like Karl Malone and Michael Jordan. and helped Team USA win the Gold Medal. That was the end of the career of a great NBAplayer.
