Chuck Noll would bring his 1979 Pittsburgh Steelers to their fourth and second back-to-back Super Bowl by beating the Houston Oilers 27-13 in the AFC championship. This would be the first Super Bowl for the Los Angeles Rams. They made it to the Super Bowl by shutting out the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 9-0 in the NFC Championship. Super Bowl XIV was played on January 20, 1980 in Rose Bowl, Pasadena, California. To start the game kicker Matt Bahr made a 3-point field goal for Pittsburgh. Los Angeles

Later in the game the Rams’ kicker Corral made 2 field goals to make the score 13-10 Rams. The Steelers would shut down the Rams and score two unanswered touchdowns one was a pass from Terry Bradshaw to John Stallworth and Franco Harris found the endzone for the other to end the game 31-19 Pittsburgh. passing. Terry Bradshaw would win his second Super Bowl MVP award and the
Steelers were the first team to win 4 Super Bowls and became the team of
the 70’s. Pittsburgh would be known as the “City of Champions”
because Pittsburgh had two championship teams that year, The 1979 World
Series Pirates, and the 1979 Super Bowl Steelers. |
