| The 1978 Pittsburgh Steelers ended the regular season with a record of 14-2 and then beat the Houston Oilers 34-5 in the AFC championship to make it to Super Bowl XIII. The 1978 Dallas Cowboys ended their regular season with a record of 12-4. The Cowboys also made it to Super Bowl XIII, but they beat the L.A. Rams 28-0 in the NFC Championship. Super Bowl XIII was held on January 21,1979 in Orange Bowl, Miami, Florida. Pittsburgh was the first to get on the board with a pass from Terry Bradshaw to wide receiver John Stallworth and Roy Gerela kicked the extra point to make it 7-0 Pittsburgh. Dallas answered back with a pass from Staubach to Hill for a touchdown and Septien kicked the extra point to tie it up 7-7. Dallas defense took the lead with a fumble recovery and touchdown by Hegnan to make it 14-7 Dallas. Pittsburgh then answered back with back-to-back touchdown passes by Bradshaw one to John Stallworth and the other to Rocky Bleier, 17-14 Pittsburgh. Dallas tried to tie it back up but had to settle for a Septien field goal. Pittsburgh then made the score 21-17 with a Franco Harris touchdown, and a Roy Gerela extra point. Pittsburgh found the end zone yet again with a touchdown pass to Lynn Swann, and another extra point by Roy Gerela who went 5 for 5 in extra points. Dallas would score back-to-back touchdowns with passes from Staubach to Duprea and B. Johnson, both extra points were made by Septien who went 4 for 4 in extra points. Pittsburgh would end up beating the Dallas Cowboys 35-31 and Steelers’ quarterback Terry Bradshaw would end up becoming the Super Bowl MVP by throwing for almost 300 yards and 4 touchdowns.
