PRS guitars were started by Paul Reed Smith. His first guitar was for extra credit in woodshop. With an A he decided to make guitars for a living.
| His first work shop was in a haunted Annapolis garret. There he would make one or two guitars a month. Then he would play them at a gig to get the best sound. | ![]() |

To sell them he would go to concert arenas six or seven hours before the show to make friends with the roadies. With a backstage pass he would sell guitars to artists like Carlos Santana.
| Soon more orders came in so he built two prototypes. Then he drove around the east coast advertising his guitars. When he came back he had enough orders to start a business. | ![]() |
