Vampires have been around since the Mesopotamian days. You can only begin to imagine how their story has varied through the years. One of the first known references to vampires is the word, "Upyr."  Soon, they began to spread. Many people began to blame deaths of animals and other creatures on vampires.  As the years went on, people began to forget about them, until they entered the gothic area as people say.  They entered literature as creatures of love and beauty. Also they were used to symbolize death, and betrayal.  They have been the inspiration for many stories, books, and novels. Some of these characters they have created have become very popular through the years. As time goes on, some of their legacies seem to last forever, even though people are not as frightened or fearful of them.
Many writers also took onto themselves to give these creatures of the night special abilities. As if being immortal was not enough, they gave them some interesting characteristics. Aside from the fiction written about vampires, there are also true acts of people committing horrible events of vampirism. Some storied follow as a group of teenagers murdered one of their members mother and father and drank some of their blood. The teenagers are now grown and they are indeed in jail.
