| The whole rollerblading thing all came together in 1760, when Joseph Merlin put wooden spools to soles of shoes. This invention did not work as well as planned and was never worked on again. In 1863, James L. Plimpton made inline skates for a character in his opera. When inline skates were made for a sport, it was made as a combination of ice skating and roller skating. Roller skates have two wheels in the front under the toes, and in the back of the boot, under the heel. | ![]() |
