It is many Pittsburghers beliefs that the Golden Triangle has created its own dialect of the English language. The Scottish brought along many pronunciations of words when they first came to Pittsburgh. Although some people think that Pittsburghese came through slurring words because of laziness. 

After the Scottish settled in the city of Pittsburgh, many immigrants from Germany, Poland, Italy, Czechoslovakia came to the Golden Triangle.

They also contributed to the language of Pittsburghese. The Russians came to Pittsburgh later on and had little contribution to the dialect of Pittsburgh. 

Pittsburghese, however, faces an opposable threat that it may die out. This is because people travel more often then they did in the earlier days of Pittsburgh. Although this special dialect has come to be a symbol of the people of Pittsburgh and will be kept alive through the love of the "home tahn."

From the rural neighborhoods on the outskirts of town to the U.S. Steel Building smack dab in the center of down town Pittsburghese is spoken. Influenced by so many ethnicities but spoken by all.
