In 1886, the D.L. Clark Company was founded by David Clark, and Irish immigrant. The outcome was the Clark Bar and many other candies eaten in the United States. The company was sold in 1955 and then again in 1995 and again in 1999. Though, the quality and taste of the candy has not changed and it is still loved as much as it was when the company was founded. 

 

In the 1930's, Duk, Lou, and Stanley Primanti opened a little restaurant in the strip. They are most famous for their sandwich which includes a huge slab of meat, French fries, fried egg, coleslaw, and a tomato on Italian bread. They say they smashed it all together because they had forgotten to buy plates when they opened the little restaurant.

 

The Icee Ball Man, of West Park, has been serving peanuts, popcorn, and of course Icees since 1934. His father opened this little street stand in the early 30's and has been taking in business for 70 years.

 

H.J. Heinz started the Heinz Company in 1964.  Started as a horse-radish store, now a world wide company producing many food products that we use everyday. The head-quarters in on the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh.

   

Helen Mannarino, and immigrant from Poland, came to Pittsburgh to pursue her dream of opening a food business. Her and her Eastern-European staff have been cooking their home countries favorite dishes since 1991. Pierogis Plus is located at Island Avenue in an old gas station. They are known for their variety of pierogis they make.

 

Today there are 400 Isaly's across Ohio and Pennsylvania. The spicy lunch meat was invented in 1933 by a local Isaly's store. Same Isaly invented the Klondike in 1929. People have been known to order the ham across the country.

 
 

Frank Blandi invented the Devonshire Sandwich in the year of 1936. It was born in Oakland at Blandi's first resturant. In consists of turkey, bacon, toast, with a cheese sauce on it. Now the Devonshire has many relatives and variations because it was such a big hit in Pittsburgh. Some of the Devonshire's family members can be found at Blandi's most famous restaurant, La Mont.
