On the corner of Baum Bolevard and South St. Clair Street stood the world's first drive in gas station. This gas station was opened by Gulf Refining in the year of 1913. America thought this such a great idea that it led to numerous filling stations all over the country. If you want to walk by this corner today, instead of Gulf Gas, you will see Spinning Plate Artist Lofts.

 

Kennywood Park of West Mifflin, which was built in the 1920's is well known for their roller coasters. Originally a park for picnic lunches, now an amusement park, There is a great variety of rides at Kennywood. For the thrill-hungry  people there are five awesome roller coasters. For the more gentle type there's the Merry-go-round and Noah's Ark. Kennywood is not just all about rides, it also has excellent foods. The Potato Patch Fries are an especially good treat.

 

Pittsburgh has a great medical community. In the year 1984, the first heart, liver, kidney transplant was performed at UPMC in Pittsburgh. Since then 11,000 transplants have been performed. This crowned the Golden Triangle as the "transplant capitol of the world."

 

 

In year of 1987, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh created the first Mr. Yuk sticker.

 

Jim Delligati, a McDonalds franchiser, created the first Big Mac. The Big Mac was tested in three other McDonalds in Pittsburgh. It became such a success that it spread throughout to the nation and later on to the world.
