About Barbados
Barbados is an independent nation island situated on the boundary of the Caribbean sea and the Atlantic ocean. the island of Barbados is 166 square miles and is very low with some hills in the interior of the island. It is 270 miles from the north east side of Venezuela. The name "Barbados" comes from the Portuguese and refers to the bearded fig trees that grow all over the island. Barbados is mostly limestone, very tropical with constant trade winds and consists of some marshes and mangrove swamp parts of the island. The islands interior consists of large sugarcane estates. It is the most eastern island in the Caribbean, and is basically a tiny dot on the world maps. Barbados has much to offer in terms of water sports and beach activities. |

What to do on the island
There are so many different activities available to do on the island of Barbados. Shopping districts are available for duty-free shopping. And they have an extremely festive night life, other attractions include casinos, jewelry stores, helicopter rides, cave exploration, exotic drinks, and fine clothes shopping. For the more sporty of people you can also enjoy cricket, fishing, hiking, walking, horse racing, kite flying, parasailing, paragliding, sailing, surfing, windsurfing, cycling, golf, horse riding, kayaking, marathon, polo, scuba diving, swimming with turtles and wave runner rentals. |

History
Barbados was settled some time around 1623. The first indigenous people were Amerindians who arrived from Venezuela. They settled along the coast of Barbados, leaving behind just a few clues and a hint of evidence for the archaeologist to date and fantasize about. Barbados gained full independence in 1966, but maintains ties to the British monarch. |
