About The Bahamas
The beautiful island of the Bahamas is a 100,000 square mile archepagio that extends over 500 miles of the clearest water ever! This island is estimated to have a land area of 5,382. Also including a population of 300,000. The Bahamas is slightly smaller than the state of Connecticut. Their 700 islands are quite a sight to see. The Bahamas is located in the North Atlantic Ocean, southeast of Florida, and northeast of Cuba. |

History
In 1492, Christopher Columbus discovered the islands of the Bahamas. After observing the shallow sea around the islands he said "Baja mar " meaning shallow water of the sea. And therefore named the islands the Bahamas or the islands of the shallow seas. |

Traveling
Since the Bahamas are located close to Florida, they attracted much attention from explorers, settlers, invaders, and traders. It is a year round tourist attraction. And happens to be just a short hop by flight, or a great trip by cruise ship, or just a day cruise on a charter boat.

Food
While here, it would really be a mistake not to sample some of the local cuisine. Their favorite dish consists of conch. Which is a large type of fish. Also available is almost any kind of seafood you could possibly imagine, plus many more traditional Bahaman traditions. Other dishes they enjoy are boiled fish and grits, stewed fish, made with celery, onions, tomatoes, and various spices. They are famous for their never bland, spicy, subtly and uniquely flavored local meats and produce. |

Sights to see
There are many sights to see around the Caribbean. From pine forests, white sandy beaches, limestone caves, lush plantations, bone fishing flats, and the world's third largest barrier reef. |

The Islands
Think about it! 700 islands all with something new and unique about all of them they've got beaches so secluded that only the light house keeper has a telephone,. Any beach that you go to is nothing short of amazing. |
