History:

Texas Hold'em was banned in 1927, but then was brought back because of protests and rebellion.  The game started Robstown, Texas and spread rapidly to the entire southwest.  The game spread through cowboys, miners, and other people who lived there at the time.  Texas Hold'em started in the World Series of Poker in 1970. Later celebrities started to play and regular people.

Rules:

Players to the left of the dealer start.  Two pocket cards are dealt face down.  Then you start the first round of betting.  You can fold and quit playing that hand, bet or "open" which is starting betting, or raise another person's already made bet.  Meaning you put what the previous person put in the pot plus more of your own money.  Each person can bet once and raise three times. Next, Three communal cards are dealt face up (flop) for everyone to use to make a five card hand.  The second round of betting starts, fold, raise, or bet.  A fourth communal card is dealt face up (turn).  Third round of betting, fold, raise, or bet.  Finally the fifth communal card is dealt face up (river).  Final round of betting, fold, raise, or bet.  You make the best five card hand.  If a tie occurs, the winners split the pot.

Strategy:

To play this game correctly you must position yourself far away from the dealer so you can react to the other's play.  In Texas Hold'em, there are 169 starting hand possibilities; only half of them are playable.  The unplayable half has only a 10% chance of winning.  One of the most important advantage's you have over your opponent is bluffing.  Only bluff in the right circumstances such as if there are all checks around the table, if there's a poor flop, If you know there's honest people playing, or to give the rest of the table the fear that you might have something up your sleeve.  There are some hands that won't play very well, such as a 2 and 7, Queen or Jack and a 3 because the chances of getting a matching hand is slim to none.

T.J. Cloutier:  T.J. Cloutier made many accomplishments but I'll only list a few such as 51 major tournaments, The third all-time money winner ($2, 992,841), 4 WSOP bracelets, 4 Hall of Fame watches, and the tournament player of the year for 1998 and 2002.

Personal Experience:

As you play the game of cards, you must remember to keep the straightest face as possible and don't let anybody know what kind of cards you have.  When I play and when you play to, concentrate on the cards and on the other players.  When people tell you to bet more or less because nobody else wants to, don't listen to them and bet what you want.  they are likely to fold and then you win the pot.  People might tell you to take one for the team, ignore them and do what you want to because you're in this for blood and only yourself.
