Faults

Faults are illegal moves made by a player.  One fault is hitting the net. You are not allowed to touch the net at all, whether its when your blocking, setting, or spiking.  Those are the most common faults, they happen when a player is too close to the net when they are performing a move. Another fault is when the players on court are out of rotation.  The whistle will be blown and the players must rearrange themselves in the correct positions.  Last are faults consisting of stepping over lines.  These lines are the center line (labeled above) and the serving line or the endline (also labeled above).  Players are not allowed to cross over the center line, if they do, they will lose possession of the ball.  The endline, also known as the serving line, is the line that the server is not allowed to cross.  If they cross the line when they are serving, they will lose the possession of the ball.

Calling The Game

The job of the referee is to call the game. They must tell whether a player has made an illegal move or if the ball was "in" or "out" of bounds.  There are normally one to two referees monitoring the game.  They also have to decide whether players are being un-sportsmanlike.  If they are, the referee has the power to give the player or players acting out a yellow card or a red card.

Yellow Cards and Red Cards

Yellow cards and red cards are cards that are given to the players for acting in an un-sportsmanlike manner.  A yellow card is more severe than a red card.  A yellow card is when a player is kicked out of a game.  A red card however is when a player is kicked out of a game, and suspended from playing in their next game.
