In a regular game, there are 7 innings with 3 outs. There are 9 different positions on a softball field. The outfield positions are left field, center field, and right field. The infield postions are first base, second base, third base, short stop, pitcher, and catcher. The most important positions are the pitcher and ctare becuase the pitcher must be able to get the ball over the plate and the catchter must be able to catch the it. The first baseman is ususally the tallest player on the team and must be able to stretch her body toward the other bases when recieving a throw. They must have excellent catching skills. Second and short stop players are generally the most agile player ib the team becaus ethey have to be able to cover and control the largest portion of the infield. These players are called on to cover their postitions, make double plays, stop steals, and serve as a cutoffs for the outfielders. It is very important for a second baseman and a short stop to have quick reflexes. The third baseman must be ready at all times. They have to have a great arm and be ready for bunts. Right fielders, center fielders, and left fielders must be able to run fast, catch fly balls, and be willing to sacrifice his or her body for the ball.

When you are batting, there are a couple different things you could do. You can bat normally ans swing away or bunt. A bunt is when you hold the bat out infront of the plate and you move your body up and down to where the ball is going. A didfferent kind of bunt is a slap. A slap bunt is when you hold the bat out infront of the plate, just like a regular bunt. Right when she is in her wind-up, you pull you bat back and do a half swing. The strike zone is from your knees to your belly button.

When you are batting, you can either get a walk, strike out, or a hit. A walk is when the picther pitches you four balls and you get to go to first base. A strike out is when the picther pitches you three strikes and that is an out.

when you get on base, you can take a lead as soon as the picther releases the ball. Leading is when you take a few steps off the base after every picth. If the ball gets past her you can steal to the next base but you have to run fast because the catcher could through you out. Once the pitcher gets back into the pitcher's cirlce (and eight foot circle around the pitcher's mound), you have to get back to the base. The bases are 60 feet apart and its is 40 feet from home plate to the pitcher's mound.
