HISTORY

The Yorkshire Terrier originated in England.  People of England didn't actually know the name of the Yorkie. All they knew them as was "the littler brown dogs."  In 1880, the people finally learned the name of this dog and really fell in love with the breed.  Since its population grew massively, in 1881 (a year later) the Yorkie came to the United States of America.  Today, it's one of the most beloved breeds of the U.S.

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

The Yorkshire Terrier is born completely black with tan marking on its face, paws, and/or body.  When the fur is brushed and has no knots, their fur is said to be "Fur of Silk."  They can grow to be between 2-10 pounds.  A Yorkie's head is very small and flat.  Their noses are a dark color such as brown or black.  All and all ,the Yorkie is is an adorable toy terrier.

GROOMING

For a small dog, the Yorkshire Terrier grows a lot of hair.  Unless you want to have your pet trip over its own fur, you should get your Yorkshire Terrier professionally groomed, or at least trimmed, every 2-3 months.  Some owners get a cut called a "classy cut." This is when the Yorkshire Terrier's hair is so long that you can't see its paws, and that its bangs are so long they have trouble seeing. The bangs are commonly tied up with a bow or some sort of clip.  There is also another cut called the "short cut."  This cut is a layered kind of look.  There are no bangs, and the dogs body is shaggy, just as if they were a puppy.  Either cut is a good choice.  You should personally wash your Yorkshire Terrier every month or so to keep it happy and clean.

PERSONALITY

A Yorkie is known as a cuddly lap dog.  This little pup will steal you heart with its sweet innocence.    They show their love for you by licking you about anything they can.  A Yorkshire Terrier makes a great pet and will give you plenty of love.

LIFE SPAN

A Yorkie's average life span is 9-12 years.  But, because of their size, they can be injured or get sick more easily.  So remember to be careful and cautious at all times.

JOBS

A Yorkshire Terrier's only job is to be a loving pet.  It is possible for Yorkie's to be put in shows, but not too many owners chose to do so
