1st-5th POSITION-These are the basic positions you learn your first year of dance.  every new step you learn makes use of these basic position.  You will use them at the beginning and end of movements and in passing from one movement to another.

ARABEQUE-An Arabasque is a pose in which the dancer raises one leg, with the knee straight, directly behind the body.  Keep your body well lifted and try not to lean forward and your right arm to the side.
ECHAPPEE

Echappee means to escape.  This is a movement of both legs simultaneously into an open position.  It can be performed on the floor of in the air.

Shuffle

This is a two-sound step that has a forward brush followed by a backward brush.  Always brush to the front first when doing a shuffle.  Make your brush sounds clear and short.  Don't let the ball sound drag on the floor when brushing backward or forward.

Flap

This move also has two sounds.  It can travel forward or backward or stay in place.  To do a walking flap you first brush forward and step down on the ball of your feet.  Do the same with the other foot.  Start out slow and begin to get faster when your sounds are clear.

Demi-Plies and Grand Plies

Plies are about control and balance. To perform a plie  you must bend your knees and try to increase the turnout in your upper legs.  Without taking your heals off the floor.  Then go as for as your ankles will allow.
