German Shepherds were first discovered in the 1800's. German Shepherds were used as a herding dog a lot in the past. The German Shepherd is a working dog and a great companion. German Shepherds were used for guide dogs and other military dogs.  

German Shepherds have a strong, elongated, muscular body. They're usually 23 to 25 inches tall and 75 to 95 pounds. Fully alert, well balanced, and deep bodied, they make very good watch dogs. They're usually black and tan and have a short straight coat.

German Shepherds love children, are protective and intelligent, and are easy to train. Most German Shepherds are fearless and self-confident. they are good watchdogs, companions, herders, guardians, and blind leaders.

You should groom a little to keep your dog's coat intact. You should exercise your dog weekly or even daily to keep him healthy and in shape.

You should make sure that you have your dog go for check-ups to make sure your dog doesn't have heartworm or any other dangerous diseases. German Shepherds often only live on an average of 12 years.
