The vault consists of a runway, a spring board, a horse, and a mat or foam pit, and it’s the opening piece at every gymnastics competition.
The original modern horse is about 5 feet and 63 centimeters long, and the bottom legs are adjustable. The spring board is about 3 feet 7 inches long.
In every vault there are 6 phases that every gymnast should understand. These phases are:
  1. 1.)The run
  2. 2.)The take off
  3. 3.)First flight
  4. 4.)Support position
  5. 5.)Second flight
  6. 6.)The landing
The uneven parallel bars consist of 2 wooden bars, a low and a high.
In routines, gymnasts are required to connect various skills on both bars, and perform a dismount off of the high bar.
Kips are the most important skill on the uneven parallel bars. Most often, they are the necessary to perform mounts, and connect skills on the high bar. A kip is one of the hardest skills to learn on this event.

Vault and bars are 2 of the 4 events in this sport, and they are the 1st 2 events in the Olympic order of competition. These events show the strength needed to become successful in the sport of gymnastics, and they take many years to master.
