Apart from its diminutive size, the most distinctive feature of this active terrier is its coat, which is steely blue in coloration with areas of golden tan on the head, silky in texture, and sufficiently long to reach the ground.  When seen walking, the Yorkie can give the impression of being mounted on wheels, because its feet may not be visible.

Origin: England - 1800's

Special Skills: Rat - catcher (in the old days)

History: They were developed by the miners of the West Riding area of Yorkshire, this terrier is the result of relatively recent crosses of the Skye, Dandie Dinmont, and Maltese Terriers.  

Average Liter Size: 2-3 puppies

Average Life Span: 14 years

Height: 9 inches

Weight: 4 1/2 - 6 1/2 lbs.

Color: Golden brown and black (puppy) or golden brown with steel gray (dogs)

Remark: Recognized as a toy breed in the United States

Character: They are lively, intelligent, loving, and becomes attached to a family.

Living Environment: They can live in any size home.

Training: Quick - learner

 Temperament: Intelligent, confident

Features: They have long, straight, silky hair with medium - length muzzle and a stubby tail.

Family Skills: Sometimes "yappers", so babies maybe uncomfortable.
