| Corgis were first thought of when Welsh farmers and herders needed a small, flat- headed, short, tough, dog to duck under the flying hooves of cattle. the inhabitants of Pembrokeshire and Cardiganshire went to find what dog could be bred for this specific task. thus, the names. the people of Cardiganshire used dogs of central Europe, like the Dachshund, and created the Cardigan Welsh corgi. the citizens of Pembrokeshire used dogs from Sweden and Scandinavia, such as the Vallhund, creating the Pembroke corgi. At the time, the inhabitants of Wales called the dogs "corgi", which meant "cur dog", or "dwarfed dog" in Welsh. they performed the job they were bred for well, and continue to this day. | ![]() |
