Training Your Golden Retriever

When you arrive at home let you new puppy look around.  It is the puppy's new environment.  Line their new crate with a soft blanket or bedding.  Make sure your puppy is comfortable.  Be sure your home is puppy friendly.  You should have a fenced in garden, have non-toxic plants.  If you have a fence it should be sturdy.  If you have a pond you should cover it with a screen or a mesh net.  If you have a barbeque you should supervise the dog.

The first night you bring the puppy home you should keep the crate in your bedroom.  If the puppy cries you should not respond.  Your should set your alarm at night so that you can let the puppy out in the middle of the night.

You should always start early to teach dogs not to beg.  If your dog starts to beg command them to lie down and look away and avoid eye contact.  When you are finished eating reward the golden retriever with praise and play.  Do not give them food.

Golden Retriever puppies are very quick learners.  They respond well to verbal rewards.  Also they respond well to food or petting rewards.  Golden Retrievers respond very well to food because they love food so much!  You should give them tasty low calorie treats when they do something well.  They also know they have done well when they hear "god dog".

House Training Outside

When You puppy puts his nose down to sniff it usually  means he needs to go to the bathroom.  You should quickly pick them up and place them on a newspaper or outside, in the grass.  Never scold or yell at them or punish them if they have an accident just sternly tell them no.
