Health of Your Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers should have clean healthy eyes.  Wash around your dogs eyes daily with cotton swabs moistened with tepid salt water.  If their eyes become reddened, cloudy or yellow or green you should contact you vet.

Many people don't brush their Golden Retriever's teeth.  You should brush your dogs teeth once or twice a week.  You should do this by using an up and down motion to massage the gums.  Always avoid human tooth paste which can be swallowed.  brushing your Golden Retriever's teeth weekly will prevent bad breath, tartar, and gum infection.

Golden Retriever's ears should be checked and inspected by you and your vet.  When cleaning dogs ears check carefully for wax or odor.  Remove wax with a damp issue. DO NOT USE COTTON SWABS!  Using cotton swabs can cause the wax to go farther into the ear and cause ear damage.

You should Wash you Golden Retrievers paws daily.  Mud can harden between their paws and on the fur on their legs.  Wash with cool water and remove dirt.  Rinse paws and dry afterwards with a towel.

Retrievers were originally were bread to work outdoors so it is very healthy for them to be outdoors a lot.  It is in their nature to inspect everything.  That's why their paws and legs should be washed daily.
If your Golden Retrievers  has long nails you should always clip them.  You should clip the pink interior.  Command you Golden Retrievers  to sit.  Always cut their nails with no crushing nail clipper found at any pet store.  If you are unsure about cutting their nail ask your vet.
