
| Basketball was invented in December 1891 by Dr. James Naismith, a teacher at the YMCA International Training School in Massachusetts. He wanted to invent something that would give the students something to do during the winter physical education classes. He got two fruit baskets, nailed them to the balconies at each end of a gym, found a soccer ball and set out some rules that are the basic rules of the game today. | |
