During Jim Morrison's short but wildly fulfilling life, Jim wrote many poetry books. These books contained what he called poetry and songs he intended on recording onto the next Doors album. Below are some of his books (The Wilderness, The American Night, and The Lords and the New Creatures) and what is written inside them.

Come - for all the world lies - Hushed and fallen - green ships dangle on the surface of - Ocean & sky birds - glide smugly among - the planes - Gaunt crippled houses - strange in the cliffs - In the East, in the cities - a hum of life begins - Now - Come

As I look back.. over my life

I am struck by post cards

      Ruined snap shots

               Faded posters

      of a time i can't recall..

Dancing & Thrashing - the reptile summer

They'll be here long before we're gone

Sunning themselves on the marbel porch

Raging w/ 'n against the slow heat

Of an invaded town

The Kingdom is ours.

I walked thru the panther's living room - And our summer together ended - Too soon - Stronger than father - Strangled by night - Rest in my sun burst - Relax in her secret wilderness- This is the sea of doubt - Which threads harps - Unwithered - & unstrung - It's the brother, not the past - who turns sunlight into grass - It's the valley - It's me.. Testimony from a strange witness.

The bird or insect that stumbles into a room -  and cannot find the window.. Because they know - no "windows". Wasps, poisened in the window, - Excellent dancers, - detached, are not inclined - into our chamber: Room of withering mesh - read love's vocabulary in the green lamp of tumescent flesh.

Inside the dream,

    Button sleep around

          your body like a glove.

Free now of space & time.

Free to dissolve in the streaming summer.

The ever popular -over played -  song "Light my Fire" might as well be the most well known song by The Doors. I can't stress enough how overly played this song is. Regaurdless, many people still try to give Jim Morrison all the credit for this catchy tune. Although Jim did come up with the second verse of this smash hit, it was Robbie Krieger (The Doors guitarist) who came up with the melody and the original 1st verse. After the song came out Robbie often told journalists that: 'In order to compete with Jim's songs, I know I'd have to be pretty good.' Robbie who was a pretty big Stones' fan got his idea for the title of his song from 'Play with Fire' by the Rolling Stones'. After reading the first 2 verses below, its easy to tell they came from 2 very different people with 2 very different writing styles.

"Light my Fire"

You know that I would be untrue. You know that I would be a liar, if I was to say to you. "Girl we couldn't get much higher." Come on, baby, light my fire. Come on, baby, light my fire. Try to set the night on fire.

The time to hesitate is through. No time to wallow in the mire. Try now, we can only lose, and our love become a funeral pyre. Come on, baby, light my fire. Come on, baby, light my fire. Try to set the night on fire.
