A famous ten-year marriage, two kids, millions of dollars, three homes, successful careers, what went wrong?
The ex-couple are on good terms. Nicole told People magazine in 2001 "I will be there for him for the rest of his life."			Tom is eager to get on with his new life, and says "I live each day the best way I can"
Tom's Vanilla Sky costar Penelope Cruz and himself were both very "friendly friends", and their relationships raised some questions, but Nicole stopped the "to-ing and "fro-ing" about why the marriage ended.
		Nicole was looking for a lover and a best friend, someone to share her life with. Tom was looking for the same. So, Tom and Nicole seemed right for each other in many ways.
	Tom with his son Conner in Santa Monica in March of 2001 "Tom is a terrific father" says a friend Sydney Pollack. The divorce did not upset their kids beyond normal, "Everybody cooperates and interacts with each other very well."	"It's amazing, his strength," says a friend. "He is coping well with everything that is happening."

At public events, Oscars, Golden Globes, Charity events the couple looked like they adored each other.
