A wide receiver is the person who catches the ball and lines up farthest away from the ball on the line of scrimmage. A wide receiver should be one of the fastest players on the football field. They have to have great hands, and knowledge of how to run patterns. They dont always have to catch the ball, on run plays they block the cornerback for running backs. The all-around receiver that every team wants would be a guy who could catch,run,block and be a leader on the field. They have to have alot of endurance because they are running constantly. There role is to catch touchdown passes from the quarterback and be a good blocker ,as well, for the running backs. |

| The running back can either be a fullback or the tail back. They line up behind the line of scrimmage. A tailback usually runs the ball, but on occasion will have to step up and make a block for the quarterback. The fullback is mainly a blocker for the running back and the quarterback. | |
| There is two different types of linebackers. The first one is a middle linebacker whos job is mainly to cover from the line of scrimmage back 7 yards, and on run plays step up into the holes and make a tackle. Middle linebackers are in the middle of the field 5 yards behind the defensive tackles. The second position is an outside linebacker. They line up where the middle linebackers do, but over five yards. This linebacker position is more for coverage and pass rushing. An outside linebacker will drop back into their zone which is the first 10 yards on the outside. If their not dropping back to defend the pass they will rush the quarterback off the outside. | |

A offensive lineman's job is to block the defensive tackles and ends. There is 3 different positions on the offensive line. Center, 2 guards, and 2 tackles. Center is the person who snaps the ball to the quarterback. A guard is next to the center, tackle and will pass block on pass plays and pull on run plays and be another fullback for the running back. A tackle is outside and next to the guard and depending on where the tight end lines up next to the tight end. The job for a tackle is to pass block and run block. When its a pass the will always block a defensive end or an outside linebacker depending on what the defense runs. |

| A quarterback is the most important player on the field. All the pressure is on the quarterback. They have to get the play, call the play in the huddle and make sure everyone else knows what their doing, than scan the defense and change the play if needed, call the signals and than run the play. Every play the quarterback touches the ball. It can be handing off to the running back, running the ball or passing to a wide receiver. They've got to make sure they get the snap and control the ball. To play quarterback you have to be smart and know a lot about football. To be a good quarterback in the NFL you have to have good arm strength and throw with accuracy. The whole offense relies on the quarterback because without a good quarterback you can not win a game. If you look at the greatest quarterback of all time you will find that they were all smart ,and great physical ability. | |
