2004 NFL DRAFT

Wide Receivers are usually taken high because it is a skilled position. Wide outs that are going high in the NFL include Larry Fitzgerald (number 1) and Roy Williams (number 4) who are pictured below. In past years wide outs that have gone high include Charles Rodgers in the 2003 draft to the Detroit Lions. An offensive tackle is usually not taken high in the draft but every now and than there is a tackle coming out that is going to go high like Robert Gallery and Jake Grove pictured below. Good offensive lineman that have came out of the draft in past years were Orlando Pace who's one of the best lineman in the NFL today.

A quarterback is probably the most position that is picked highest in the draft. That is because they are the most important position in the offense. In past years quarterbacks who have gone high were Micheal Vick, Peyton Manning, Ryan Leaf, etc. This year the Steelers selected Ben Roethlisberger who is pictured below who plays quarterback. Every year that there has been a draft a quarterback was taken in the top 10.
A defensive tackle or defensive end will usually have a player go in the top 10. If not one usually a couple. Defensive line is a very hard position to play when coming into the NFL as a rookie because they have to be really big and strong to go against offensive lineman. Defensive line is being noticed more, so now in the drafts you will see more defensive lineman go than they use to be.
A cornerback is a very hard positon to play in the NFL coming out as a rookie. To get picked high in the draft cornerbacks have to be big, not afraid to come up and hit someone, got a fast 40 time, and know the game. Cornerbacks that have gone high in the draft the last couple years have been Terrance Newman who got picked 4th overall by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2003 NFL draft, and Quetin Jammer who got picked 5th overall by the San Diego Chargers in the 2002 NFL draft. Big name cornerbacks entering the 2004 draft are: Ricardo Colcolough, Derek Strait, Will Poole and Sean Jones.

HOW A DRAFT WORKS: The draft consists of seven rounds and 280 picks. In the first round the team picking has fifteen minutes to make their selection. How they decide who picks where, they take every teams record and the worst record in the NFL gets the first pick all the way down to the 32nd pick which is the team that had the best record. There is thirty-two teams in the NFL so there is thirty-two picks a round. The second round each team gets ten minutes to make their selection. The third round the time limit goes down to five minutes, and for the rest of the draft they have five minutes to make their selection.
