Most people believe that defense is not very important to the game of basketball, but other people believe that defense wins championships.
When the other team has the ball your team is playing defense. The whole point of playing defense is to keep the other team from scoring, and to get the ball back for your team.
There is more than just one way that your team can get the ball back on defense. Some ways are stealing the ball, blocked shot, rebound, or a turnover.

While someone is playing defense they are in a defensive stance. A defensive stance will help someone move fast and stay in a good position to block a shot, steal the ball, and stay with the offensive player.
In a defensive stance you should keep your feet a shoulder's width apart, keep your weight on the balls of your feet, and keep your knees bent. Also, keep your hands low and out to the sides, and keep moving.

On defense there are many different defenses you can play. There are zone defenses and a man-to-man defense. There are also zone presses and man-to-man presses.
Some zone defenses are two-three zone, three-two zone, and a one-three-one zone. Some zone presses are one-two-one-one, two-two-one, and two-one-two.

A man-to-man defense is when one defensive player guards one offensive player. That is the same thing for a man-to-man press except the  defensive player guards the offensive player full court.
