The other part of soccer is the field player. These are the people other than the goalkeeper who play on the field. The positions that the field players can be are striker, mid fielder, and defense. There is a total of ten field players on the field for each team. The strikers mostly stay in the opposing teams end. The defense stays mostly on there end and the mid fielder run back and fourth from both sides. |

All of the field players wear the same shirts, socks, and shorts to show which team they play for. They also wear shin pads for protection and spikes to make it easier to run on the fields. |

Even though soccer is not known for being tough the field players are still very physical. If there is a ball in the air going up to a group of players many will fight to win it. One player who is especially tough is Paul Gascoigne. He played through the pain even with a broken cheek bone. |

One way to improve on being a field player is to set up cones about one yard apart in a row for about ten yards. Tell the players to dribble through the cones as fast as they can and at the end to shoot on the goalkeeper. This will improve on both dribbling and shooting which are both very important parts of soccer. |

Another drill which you can have your field players do is to have a one on one game. To set up for this game you must make goals about 15 yards apart. Then have one of the players start with the ball and tell him or her to try to score. The two players will be trying to score and take the ball away from each other. This will improve on the players tackling ability. The word tackle means to take the ball away from the other player. This drill will also improve on dribbling. As you can see the field player is a very important position and is just as exciting. |
