Spit is a two player game that is for intense thinkers and people with fast reflexes. You need to have good hand-eye coordination and you have to have speed to be able to slap the pile. You also need to be able to look at four places at once; your cards, your enemy's cards, and both piles in the middle.
You split the deck between two people, each getting twenty-six cards. To set up like the picture above, listen to the following. Take the card on the top of your deck and flip it face up. Then place four cards side by side face down. Now put a card face up on top of your first card that was face down. Place one card on top of each face down card. Continue this process until fifteen cards are placed down on the pile. To check, count eleven cards in your hands. Then you check to see if you have any matches. You put one on top of the other and flip over the card that isn't showing. This can go on until you don't have any more cards to flip over if so many cards match.

Flip over the top card of the pile. The pile is placed to the top right hand corner of your cards that are laid out in front of you. Once the cards from each pile are flipped over, you can begin playing. You can place any three cards onto the pile. Those three cards can be either the same card that was flipped over, one letter above or one letter below. An Ace can go on either a King, Ace, or Two, for example. You can play on both piles. If no one can put anything down, you flip the next card in the pile. You keep doing this until one of you is out of cards. Then both of you try to slap the smaller pile. The person who slapped that pile first gets the pile and is closer to winning the game. Then you set up your cards again and start to play.
When one person is so close to winning the game and doesn't have any cards left over after setting up, you would take the bottom card from the other person's leftover cards and put it on the right side so that you can slap a specific place when going out. You then only use the one pile available to you until you get ready to slap. The person who slaps the pile with the face down card wins the game.
If both spit piles run out of cards and both people are still left with cards, then both people try to slap the smaller pile. If one person isn't paying attention, it is their fault if the other person slaps and gets the smaller pile.
