| Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart was born on January 27, 1756. He was the last child
of the six in his family. Of the six children born before him, only
one, Nannerl, was still alive when he was born. By the age of five,
Wolfgang could play the harpsichord and violin like a professional.
He had also begun to compose a couple lines of piano music.
Wolfgang's father had begun to play grand tours of Europe to show off his
children's musical talents. During these tours, everyone in the
Mozart family suffered from serious diseases and miraculously
survived. Wolfgang never grew to be a strong man because of all
these illnesses.

In December 1770, Mitridate,
re di Ponto, a full scale opera that was composed by Wolfgang, was
performed in Italy. Wolfgang was only fourteen years old, yet he
directed this himself.
In 1774, the Elector of Bavaria asked Wolfgang to wrote an Opera for the Munich Carnival. Wolfgang had then written La finta giardiniera. It was a huge success. Mozart was the first that we know of who composed piano concertos. Moazart enjoyed writing operas more than anything. While living in Vienna, he wrote The Abduction from the Seraglio. Mozart composed numerous operas. Some he did with the help of others. |
