Born on October 5, 1965, in Montreal, Quebec Lemieux, like most other hockey players from Montreal, grew up loving the Montreal Canidians.  He idolized people like Guy Lafluer.  His parents lived a modest life; his father, Richard, was a construction worker, his mother stayed home and took care of Mario and his two brothers.
Mario Lemieux's nickname is "Super Mario".  Lemieux will not only be remembered as a legend, he will be remembered as one who changed the game and brought innovation to the sport he loves.
Mario's parents supported his likeness in the sport.  Lemieux's father even made a homemade ice-rink for Lemieux and his friends to play in. When Lemieux played in the Junior Hokey League, he scored 247 goals and 562 points in three seasons.  Mario was the first entry overall (1964) for the Pittsburgh Penguins.  During his rookie season he scored exactly 100 points, and was named rookie of the year.
