James lance Bass, or as you know him Lance, was born on May 4, 1979 in Clinton Mississippi.  Lance never expected to be a singer.  In fact, his whole life, Lance has always wished to be an astronaut.  Lance knew he wanted to be an entertainer when he saw his first Garth Brooks concert.  He was only 14.

Lance was not one of the originial NSYNCers.  One of Joey's friends was the fifth member.  The work and busy schedule made the friend quit the group and leave the four boys looking for a fifth member.  They had many try outs for the final member when Justin had remembered Lance from a MMC try out. Lance's mom was not so sure if this was a good idea.  So they decided to go andjust try it out.  Lance and his family decided to stay.

During the break, Lance finally fulfilled his life long dream, to be an astronaut.  For months he went through NASA training.  Lance said he was having the best time of his life.  When he was so close to going NASA turned him down because they said he was not well enough quailified.  Lance was upset but was not going to let it get him down.  He then starred in a romantic comedy "On the Line" with Joey Fatone in 2003.
