
A cheer is a longer, more spirited yell that may utilize a variety of motions and stunts, that is perfomed only during official breaks in a game.

One thing that keeps the crowd focused on the cheerleaders while they are doing a cheer is their bright and shiny pom pons. Paper poms were introduced in the 1930's, and vinly ones were invented in the 1960's. |
| There are two types of cheers, main cheers and sidelines. Sidelines are also known as chants. Main cheers are alot longer and usually invole harder movements than sideline cheers. |
