Pittsburgh Penguins

The Penguins joined the National Hockey League (NHL) as an expansion team in 1967. The new franchise recorded seven consecutive losing seasons from 1967 to 1974. The Penguins assembled one of the league's best offenses in 1975-1976 featuring players including Syl Apps and Jean Provonst. In 1984, after finishing with the worst record in the leagues the Penguins top draft pick was Mario Lemieux. In 1987-1988 season Lemieux collected his first MVP award and led the Pens to their first winning season in 9 years. The Penguins then won back to back Stanley Cup championships in 1991 and 1992. Lemieux led the team along with Paul Coffey, Jaromir Jagr, Larry Murphey, Kevin Stevens, Mark Recchi and Tom Barrasso.

Pittsburgh Penguins, professional hockey team are one of five teams in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference in the NHL.
