The attack are responsible for attacking the goal and passing for someone else to attack the goal. Generally, attackmen only play at one end of the field. Good attackmen have excellent stick work and quick feet to manuever around the goal.

The midfielder is the backbone of the lacrosse team. His responsibility is to cover both ends of the field and move the ball from the defense to the attackmen. A good midfielder demonstrates good stick work including throwing, catching, and scooping. Speed and stamina are esssential to playing midfield. |

The defensemen are responsible for defending the goal. They are supposed to keep the opposing team's attackmen from getting close to and seeing the goal for a clear shot. Although size helps, defensemen should be agile and quick to move with the attackmen to react and block a shot.

The goalies responsibility is to defend the goal. A good goalie defends the goal AND leads the defense by directing them. A good goalie must have a lot of hand eye coordination and extremely quick reaction time. Quickness, agility, confidence, and the ability to concentrate are also essential. |
