| There are many rules in the NHL. I am going to tell you about some, one is un-sportsman like. There are various ways to get an un-sportsman like penalty such as; throwing your stick, or not being a good sportsman after fighting., or just a loss. | |||
| Another penalty is slashing. Slashing can do serious damage to the part of the body in which the person is being slashed. The player who slashed someone will do a 2 minute penalty or can even get thrown out of the game. | |||
| Another rule is roughing. Roughing is called by the referee when one player strikes their opponent and the ref does not think it was appropriate. Players can do up to a 4 minute penalty. | |||
| Another penalty which is not called very often but players can be penalized for is high sticking. This will be called when one player raises his or her stick above their opponent's shoulder's. Players will do a 2 minute penalty. | |||
| Another rule is cross checking. |
