1870-The very first prep club was founded at Princeton University.
1880-The first yell was recorded at Princeton.  The person yelling through the megaphone was called the "yell captain".
	1890-At the University of Minnesota, the first school "fight song" was created and the first organized cheerleading squad.
1900-The megaphone is popular!
	1920-Women became involved in cheerleading. They also had added tumbling and gymnastics to their routines, and cheers.  It gives intimidation to the other team.  They also use it to show off what they can do!
1930-Universites and high schools began using pom-poms during their cheers and they also used them for their routines.  They used them to make their routines look sharper and cuter.
	1940-The first cheerleading company was formed by R. Herkimer of Dallas, Texas.
1950-College cheerleaders had begun conducting cheerleading workshops to teach cheerleading skills, such as jumps, cheers, and stunts.
	1960-The vinyl pom-pom was invents by Fred Gasthoff.
1980-National cheerleading competitions for junior and senior high school as well as college squads from across the nation.  Looks like these girls have been working hard!
