Honus Wagner is arguably one of the greatest baseball players of all time. Wagner's father was an immigrant who thought baseball was acceptable. This was because Wagner's brother had success. Wagner was discovered at a game when scouts were looking at his brother. |
| In 1898, Honus Wagner was an established star for the Louisville Colonials. He was already a great hitter and an excellent fielder. He had only one problem. His manager could not find a set position for him. In 1899, the Colonials folded and Wagner was went with his owner to the Pittsburgh Pirates. |

As a Pirate, Honus Wagner was very successful. In his first year, Wagner won a batting title with an average of .380 and led his team to a second place finish in their division. |
| Wagner remained a dominant player for the Pirates. Finally finding a position at shortstop, Wagner won a second batting title in 1902. He led the Pirates into the first ever World Series against the Boston Pilgrims. He won 4 more batting titles and carried the Pirates to a Pennant win. |

| Honus Wagner is regarded as the best shortstop of all time. He tried managing with some success and he became one of the first five inductees into the Hall of Fame. Wagner still is in the top three of every major category for the Pirates. He also has a baseball card worth over $451,000. Wagner was truly one of the Pirates best players. |
