Soda fountains became a way of socializing with friends. But when you ordered a Coke they didn't hand you a bottle or a can, they would squirt the Coca-Cola syrup in a glass and then poured in the carbonated water into the syrup. Then, you could enjoy a Coke and spend time with your friends.

Saratoga Spring Pavilion is where Mohawk Indians first discovered the naturally carbonated waters. Geneva System" was developed by Jacob Schweppe. This system consisted of a carbon dioxide generator, a gasometer and a pump that forces the gas into a carbonating chamber. Saloon owners who were forced to close their doors decided to instead open a soda fountain. This helped them to keep business.
