John Entwistle

Bassist and Back-up Vocals
John Alec Entwistle, also was conceived at Hammersmith Hospital, Acton. He was born on October 9, 1944. His father was a Royal Navy Man, and his mother a tax clerk.
At only eighteen months of age, his parents split up. This was very uncommon at the time especially in Acton (which was considered to be an affluent community).
John's father taught him the trumpet early on in his childhood, enabling him to be able to read music at age seven. His first public appearance was made with the two-hundred piece Middlesex youth orchestra. This time he was on the French horn.
As a student, he met Pete Townshend. They instantly connected with similar personalities and soon became very good friends. John then invited Pete to audition for his band The Confederates. Later, both of them would leave The Confederates to join Roger Daltrey's band, The Detours.
John, "The Ox", Entwistle, after an amazing career as The Who's bassist, died on Thursday June 27, 2002. His death came as a huge surprise to many people. The day before The Who was was scheduled to begin a U.S. tour, he was found dead in a hotel in Las Vegas.
After John's stunning death, Pete later went on to say, "We've lost another great friend."
