The NFL

The NFL stands for the National Football League.  The NFL was started in 1922.  Many different leagues were created around that time to rival the NFL , such as the AAFL which eventually became the AFL.  However in 1970 the NFL and it's rival the AFL, merged into one league.
The NFL is divided into two Conferences.  The National Conference (NFC) and the American Conference (AFC).  Each conference is made up of a North, South, East, and West division.  There are 4 teams in each division, and there are 32 teams in all.
During regular season each team will play 16 games against teams from both conferences.  At the end of the season the teams with the best overall and division scores will go on to the post season to play in the playoffs.
The teams that make it to the playoffs compete against each other to get a chance to play in the Super bowl.  In the Super Bowl the best teams from each of the conferences face off against each other.  After the Super bowl the best players from all the teams go to Hawaii to play in the Pro-Bowl.  In the Pro-Bowl the best players from each conference face off.
